- In The 3rd East Asia SIAM Conference held in Xiamen University from
November 2-5, 2007,
our PhD student HUANG Yumei received the second prize

- Prof. L. Zhu has been recently elected as a Fellow of
the American Statistical Association. This honor goes to the internationally
recognized statisticians. Prof. L. Zhu is also a Fellow of

- Wu Tongtong, who was one of our first few mainland scholarship students
(studied in our department from 1999-2002),
recently finished her study at UCLA and will become a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Department of Epidemiology and
Biostatistics at the University of Maryland, College Park, in Fall 2007. [posted 9/07]

- Hong Kong Baptist University received a donation of 10 million Hong Kong dollars from Wofoo Foundation Limited on November 16 2005 in support of the University's development. Among the donation, 1.5 million will be donated to our Department and the Peking University-HKBU Joint Research Institute for Applied Mathematics.

- At the 50th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service, held on February 28, 2006, Dr C.S. Tong, received the President's Award for Outstanding Performance in recognition of his service to the University from Prof C.F. Ng, President and Vice-chancellor. He was one of eighteen teaching staff presented with the President's Award in 2006. This was in fact the second President's Award for Dr. C. S. Tong, he also received a President's Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching in 2001.

- At the same Thanksgiving Service, three Mathematics Department Colleagues received the Long Service Award from the Chairman of the Council and the Court, Mr. Moses M.C. Cheng. The recipients were Dr. C.-I Chu. (30 Years), Ms. Claudia M.Y. Chui (25 Years), and Dr. W. M. Xue (15 Years). Members from all sectors of the HKBU community also commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the University.
