Café Mathématique

Join us for an informal gathering of
Getting to Know Actuarial Statistics

Café Mathématique is a series of informal gatherings dedicated to sharing ideas by connecting prospective and current students, alumni, professors, and the community. This time, we want to connect you,

BSc Year 1 students and Math/Stat students,
to
the actuarial profession.

Our department will offer new two courses in Actuarial Statistics, namely,
- MATH2805 Mathematics of Compound Interest, and
- MATH3837 Actuarial Mathematics,
in preparation for students interested in the pending concentration in Actuarial Statistics and those who are thinking of going in this professional. Given the strong demand of actuarial professionals, you may want to know more about the discipline and consider taking some of these courses. Here is a chance to hear from the Society of Actuaries (SOA)! Delegate from the SOA will come and share with you information about the actuarial profession and the related requirements to get into the field, such as education pathways and necessary resources.

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) can trace its roots back to the Actuarial Society of America and is the world's largest actuarial professional organization with more than 27,000 actuaries as members. Through research and education, the SOA's mission is to advance actuarial knowledge and to enhance the ability of actuaries to provide expert advice and relevant solutions for financial, business and societal challenges. The SOA's vision is for actuaries to be leaders in the measurement and management of risk. In this event, you will have the chance to talk face-to-face with the delegate from the SOA. This would be a good opportunity for you to get to know more about one of the most sought-after professions. So come join us and don’t miss out!
