HKBU is committed to promoting environmental consciousness and sustainability as part of its mission as a tertiary educational institution.

The Department of Mathematics is thrilled to announce our latest project on the mathematical studies of 4D printing. Dr. Andrew Lam is leading the way as we explore new designs of objects created from smart materials that can change their shape in response to environmental stimuli. His work offers a rigorous approach to studying optimal design problems in the emerging field of 4D printing.

We are proud to contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Check out the attached photos to see our computationally optimal distribution of smart materials in structures that can bend and twist in fascinating ways!
